Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski"

Sofia University “St Kliment Ohridski” (SU), founded in 1888, is Bulgaria’s oldest university and one of the Balkans’ most respected centers of science. Today it is the country’s largest and most prestigious academic and research hub, comprising 16 faculties and offering more than 120 accredited bachelor’s programmes, over 400 master’s programmes, and more than 190 doctoral programmes.

SU, particularly its Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics (FMI), has been a national pioneer in higher education in Artificial Intelligence. The first AI course at SU was introduced in 1980 for Mathematics students at FMI. During the 1990s, AI specializations were developed within the newly established Informatics major. In 2002, FMI officially launched its Master’s Programme in
Artificial Intelligence, which has attracted strong interest and achieved notable success for over 20 years.

The Master’s Programme provides solid theoretical foundations in intelligent systems and practical skills for applying AI methods across Informatics and IT. The curriculum covers core AI, knowledge modeling and knowledge-base design, machine learning and deep learning, information retrieval, data mining and knowledge discovery in big data, natural language processing and large language models, image processing and pattern recognition, embedded and autonomous systems, neural networks and genetic algorithms, robot control, semantic technologies, and recommender systems.
