In this issue, we highlight one of our partner universities, HU University of Applied Sciences, and their upcoming educational programme.
HU University of Applied Sciences has been offering the Master Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence since 2022. This one-year programme leads to an MSc degree and is designed for students with a background in ICT or those from other domains who can demonstrate sufficient programming experience.
From September 2026, HU will introduce the AI in Health & Life Sciences track as part of this master. Students will begin with a shared horizontal track alongside their peers from Human-Centered AI, after which they specialise in applying AI within healthcare and biomedical life science contexts.
The programme is strongly practice-driven. Throughout the year, students work continuously on projects, starting with a group project in the first semester and progressing to an individual research project in the second semester as part of their graduation.
These projects are supported by courses in AI, ethical, legal and societal aspects of AI (ELSA), and research skills.
Rather than traditional exams, students demonstrate their competencies through continuously collecting evidence of their development through project work, deliverables, and feedback from different stakeholders.
As AI continues to evolve rapidly, this programme prepares students not only for current technologies, but also for future developments by strengthening critical thinking, adaptability, and responsible innovation.
