Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping society, yet there remains a critical shortage of professionals equipped to apply it responsibly. PANORAIMA, a pan-European initiative involving 8 universities, 3 SMEs, and 4 research centres, aims to address this gap by building a collaborative network for education and research in Human-Centred and Responsible AI.

PANORAIMA stands for the Pan-European Network for Responsible Artificial Intelligence Multisector Master’s Programme. It offers an interdisciplinary Master’s degree with specialised tracks for key sectors and provides flexible, modular learning paths to support upskilling and reskilling for professionals. Beyond the degree programme, PANORAIMA develops open, transferable learning materials and builds a strong research and teaching community. The goal is to establish a European reference model for Responsible AI education, accessible to all, regardless of background or field.

With the need to place ethics, society, environment, sustainability and human rights at the heart of technological development, especially in today’s volatile geopolitical and economic climate, PANORAIMA emerges as a timely and critical initiative. As the EU strives to lead globally in ethical and sustainable AI, PANORAIMA supports this mission by transforming how AI professionals are trained, linking innovation with inclusion, responsibility, and long-term societal value.

Our Values

Human-Centred and Responsible AI

At the core of PANORAIMA lies the principle that AI should be designed, deployed, and governed with people, environment and society in mind. This means building systems that are:

  • Ethical. Aligned with human rights and moral responsibility.
  • Sustainable. Aligned with the UN’s SDGs and EU’s efforts to reduce technology’s negative environmental impact.
  • Inclusive. Responsive to diverse social, cultural, and demographic needs.
  • Transparent & Accountable. Enabling scrutiny, trust, and informed decision-making.
  • Purposeful. Developed with social benefit and public interest in focus.

Interdisciplinary Relevance

AI is not just a technical issue. PANORAIMA emphasises the cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary nature of responsible AI, engaging learners and professionals from:

  • Healthcare & Life Sciences
  • Media & Culture
  • Law & Compliance
  • Management & Finance

This approach fosters collaboration between technical and non-technical domains and ensures that ethical AI is embedded where it matters most.

Accessibility and Inclusion

Responsible AI education must be available to everyone, regardless of academic background, discipline, or geographic location. PANORAIMA promotes:

  • Open learning pathways and modular formats
  • Support for upskilling and reskilling
  • Gender and diversity-aware recruitment strategies
  • Multilingual and accessible communication

Sustainability & Geopolitical Responsibility

PANORAIMA links AI education to broader societal and environmental responsibility:

  • Supporting sustainable innovation with minimal ecological impact.
  • Encouraging democratic governance.
  • Reinforcing Europe’s leadership in human-centric digital transformation.

Community & Collaboration

PANORAIMA is not just a programme—it’s a growing European ecosystem:

  • Students, alumni, educators, partners, and policymakers form a shared community of practice.
  • Long-term engagement is fostered through co-creation, dialogue, and an evolving network, which will eventually be integrated into a broader, pan-European community and umbrella brand that unites PANORAIMA, HCAIM, and future Responsible AI initiatives under a single flagship identity.
